See Clearly at Near, Intermediate and Far

In the 56+ age range, cataract surgery (or Clear Lens Replacement) becomes an excellent option, affording clearer vision and a broader range of focus.  The options available in modern Intra-Ocular Lenses ("IOLs") are quite broad, therefore recommendations are nuanced and personalized to each individual.  We make recommendations based on your lifestyle, visual needs, tasks performed, and viewing ranges needed; endeavoring to tailor treatment and IOL options to you.  The visual demands and desires of a cinematographer are different than for a golfer, pilot, seamstress, or avid reader.

Eliminating the need for distance prescriptions is attainable, but that's just the start.  Some peple are OK wearing magnifiers or reading glasses, while others would prefer not to.  Viewing a computer monitor at 22" is different than viewing a cell phone display screen at 18" or a book at 14" -- since each of these is a different focal range!

LASIK is a great method of correcting fixed-focus optical imperfections of the eye including nearsightedness and astigmatism.  In the 56-and-up age range, lens-based treatment (with IOL) is generally a better option for farsightedness correction.  Some modern IOLs can now correct for astigmatism -- these are called toric IOLs.  Multifocal and adjustable-focus IOLs enable a broader range fo focus than LASIK can typically offer.

At LA Sight we're experts in both laser-based and lens-based approaches.  It is necessary to tailor recommendations to the personal needs of each individual, so the best place for you to start is with a comprehensive consultation.
