I have worked in an administrative capacity for several medical practices including three specializing in laser vision correction over the past 15 years. One I managed was a laser center for a surgeon in the Midwest; I then became regional administrator for a network of centers. I came to work for Dr. Wallace in January of ‘01.
In my work with LASIK surgeons I have observed many patients achieve great results. Some people are literally able to throw away their glasses and contacts. Some had experienced such an improvement in their vision that it literally changed their life. I was dragging my feet, waiting until I was completely comfortable with the idea, and confident with the surgeon with whom I would trust my eyes.
The fact that I worked in two other LASIK practices and did not have LASIK tells you something. That I then chose to have Dr. Wallace perform my LASIK says a lot.
There really is a difference in the skill level, knowledge, and experience among LASIK surgeons, and this can translate directly into a difference in results. This should be obvious, but many people just don’t take this into consideration. I have personally counseled many intelligent people who think, for some reason, that all LASIK is fundamentally the same regardless of surgeon, experience, laser system, or cost. When I ask these same people whether all general contractors, hair stylists, or restaurant chefs are comparable in their experience, skill, and ability to deliver desired results, they ""get it"".
In addition, not all lasers are created equal; some are better for treating particular conditions. I have extremely large pupils, and Dr. Wallace advised me that I would benefit from treatment with a laser that allows larger-diameter treatments than other machines. And of course there is the ‘personality factor.’ Some surgeons are arrogant, some self-impressed, some just too busy to talk to you or listen to you. Not Dr. Wallace. I watched him interact with patients over a span of months, carefully inspected his results, and then made the decision to ask him to be my surgeon.
The procedure was easy, painless, and after only one evening I was seeing a NATURAL feeling 20/15 (clearer than ever before with contacts). I have been enjoying my vision for over a year now, and am still amazed at how clear and natural the vision is. Thanks to Dr. Wallace, Ruth, and Norma who all made this a terrific experience and helped me to safely see better than ever before.
I was hoping to get “20/20” vision. The fact that I am now “20/15” (sharper!) in each eye is unbelievable. I am absolutely thrilled with my results, and know I made the right choice by waiting, watching, learning, and then selecting Dr. Wallace.
I left Dr. Wallace’s employ in late '01, when I got another offer I could not refuse. I still think Dr. Wallace and his office represent the best of a good group of laser vision specialists, and would recommend him to anyone.
PS: Thanks, Doc!
