Toric IOLs Correct Astigmatism
Astigmatism is an eye condition that causes blurred or double vision because the cornea is 'out-of-round'. The cornea is the outer part of the eye where light first passes before it enters the lens. In people with astigmatism, the cornea is curved such that it is steeper along one axis than the axis 90 degrees away. Think of the side of a donut -- the vertical curve is greater than the horizongal curve, and the difference between the two curvatures is ... the amount of astigmatism!
