Dr. Wallace's Comments:
Kristen is a slender, beautiful young woman who had a very strong prescription (-9.00 range nearsighted), and was quite motivated to have laser corrective care. Her corneal thickness was also on the slender side, not quite adequate to allow creation of a LASIK flap and accept all necessary laser sculpting. In situations like this we typically advise PRK or what I call simply "surface treatment". While the recovery from this is a little slower than perhaps with LASIK, we preserve a bit more structural stability by starting the sculpting more superficially in the corneal collagen layer (not under a protective flap). Kristen did phenomenally well with this care. She had her original treatment in about December '05 and we did provide touch-up care for her right eye six months later. She is absolutely delighted with her vision and we are thrilled for her!
