I just cannot believe my eyes!

I was soooo nearsighted all my life.  Every time I went to the eye doctor it seemed my prescription would get stronger.  It's a weird feeling to think that nobody else I have ever met has a prescription even close to as strong as mine.  And it was troubling to think that without my glasses or contacts I would be helpless.

I have followed developments in the field of nearsightedness correction for many years.  Always before I was told that my prescription was "too strong" to be corrected by things like LASIK.  I was thrilled beyond belief to hear that phakic lens treatments (like Visian ICL and VeriSyse) had become available, and that results were promising.  I wanted to find a good doctor who was experienced, kind, gentle, and patient -- someone who would take good care of me and my delicate eyes!

I interviewed a few doctors and was not impressed.  Then I met Dr. Wallace.  He and his entire crew are so knowledgeable, so considerate!  Anyway, he spent a long time examining me and we talked at length about my situation.  My vision was so bad that even with glasses or contacts (before treatment) I could not see much better than the 20/60 letters on the eye chart.  He told me that he thought the best way to proceed would be to correct my nearsightedness with the phakic lens, then do LASIK for my astigmatism.  He said he couldn't promise "20/20" but thought I would be pleased with the results.

Well, that's an understatement!  I had my Visian ICL lenses put in in August, and LASIK a few weeks later.  Now I can see the 20/20 letters on the chart!  In fact, my right eye was able to see the 20/15 size letters -- better than 20/20!    It is true that I had a horrible vision as long as I recall. It is also true that I now have awesome vision.  It's amazing.  I am so thankful I met Dr. Wallace.

As a Real Estate Broker, I have to read a lot of legal contracts. I had a major problem reading them even with my contact lenses on. Now, it is a breeze.

One minor point, that Dr. Wallace advised me of in advance.  I do have a tiny bit of halo around lights that I notice only at night.  It's not a bother, and my vision is so incredibly clear that it does not detract from my happiess.  It's the only imperfection in an otherwise unbelievably wonderful experience.

Grace is one for the record books.  She had the highest nearsighted prescription we have ever contemplated treating -- measuring above minus 19 diopters, and with astigmatism.  There are challenges when treating eyes with this degree of nearsighedness, to be sure.  With her best glasses or contact lenses, Grace was only able to see the 20/70 size letters on the chart, and then only with squinting and guessing.

I discussed all options with her and recommended Visian ICL for her nearsightedness, followed by LASIK for the astigmatism.  Grace was quite well-informed before coming to see me, and in fact was knowledgeable about all of the models of phakic lens (Visian and VeriSyse) available in the U.S.

Her ICL surgery went beautifully, and her recovery was quick.  We chose to wait about a month between her ICL care and LASIK treatment.  She is now able to see the 20/20 letters on the chart, without correction, in both eyes.  For her this is as close to a miracle as she can imagine.  She is incredibly happy, though, to be honest, she does note "a tiny bit of glare at night" which she does not consider bothersome.  "Compared to what I had before we started, I the tiny bit of glare is insignificant," she says. 

We are of course thrilled for her.
