Dr. Wallace's Comments:
Some people become concerned when I advise PRK in preference to LASIK. There is a widely-held public perception that for some reason, PRK "isn't as good as" LASIK. I hope that Elda's profile will help put those concerns to rest.
I advised PRK for Elda in part because of her slightly thin corneas, and in part due to her very high prescription. Sculpting to a depth sufficient to fully correct her prescription, combined with the average thickness of a LASIK flap, might in her case have created some long-term concerns about stability of her corneas and her vision. Since in PRK there is no flap, this issue becomes moot.
Elda is even more beautiful in person than her photo reflects, and it is a true pleasure to see her flash a big smile when she comes in for her check-ups. She's off next week to Costa Rica for a surfing trip, and we wish her great weather, a big swell, and safe travels. We know she'll have no trouble seeing the waves with her new, nearly bionic visoin.
