Quality & Affordability: Why LA Sight Is the Choice of Smart, Cost-Conscious Patients.

The decision to have LASIK can be overwhelming, and the amount of conflicting information out there doesn’t help, especially on cost. How can one center say they charge $2,000, and another $499?

Average LASIK Practice Costs

FACT: the average price for a “standard” LASIK procedure (using older lasers, without "wavefront" or “customized” technology) across the US in Q1 2009 was actually $1748 per eye. The average price for custom (using wavefront technology) all-laser LASIK was $2314 per eye. This average includes discount centers but many centers in Los Angeles charge as much as $3400 per eye.

This discrepancy exists because there is a big difference in the technology, provider experience, and, most importantly, accuracy and quality of results among different centers:

  • Most centers don’t publicly report or statistically analyze their results.  LA Sight does.  See our Analysis of Results page.
     
  • Most centers will not tell you what their outcomes are. At LA Sight, the percentage of patients that see 20/20 or better after treatment is 98.5%.
     
  • Most centers have an enhancement (re-treatment) rate above 7% in the first year after treatment. LA Sight’s rate is below 2.2%.
     
  • Most centers have a rather low percentage of patients that see better than 20/20 after treatment. The percentage of patients at LA Sight that see 20/15 or better after treatment is 32.2%.
     
  • Most centers can’t give you a straight answer if you ask about risk of glare, halo, and night vision difficulty with LASIK as provided by their technology platform. The Wavelight Allegretto laser that we use is the only laser that has presented data to the FDA showing that night vision quality after LASIK can be better than best-corrected vision (with glasses or contact lenses) before treatment. All other laser systems can only say "it's almost as good."
