Andrew and I have known each other for over 25 years. He chose to have LASIK in about June ’00. He wrote one letter soon after his experience (shown at bottom). He wrote a friend in March ’04 recommending him to our office, shown below:
I know a great eye doctor – Dr. David A. Wallace (310-828-2020). I’ve known Dave for many years and he did my LASIK surgery a few years ago. I am extremely happy with the results and the improvement in my vision has been miraculous! So why do I recommend Dave?
I hope this referral helps.
Regards,
Andrew
And now, here’s the “testimonial” letter:
I’m happy to provide this letter about my experience with LASIK surgery performed by Dr. David A. Wallace. LASIK surgery has been one of the most miraculous and transformative experiences of my life!
Before LASIK Surgery
I was extremely nearsighted. I think I was a -9 or -10, which in plain terms means I could see the “E” on the eye chart but not a whole lot more. Wearing contacts corrected my vision, but there was the constant hassle of maintaining them, the constant irritation of wearing them, and the constant fear of losing them. When you are as myopic as I was, losing a contact lens is more than inconvenient. It is really limiting. Sure I participated in all manner of outdoor and aquatic activities, but I was always worried about losing a lens and then needing to find my way home or out of the water.
LASIK Surgery
The procedure itself was surprisingly fast and simple. Dr. Wallace and Ruth gave me a clear understanding of what to expect. I found the procedure to be completely painless. At one point I felt pressure on my eye, but that was it. Compared to the pain of having my teeth cleaned, I’d pick LASIK surgery every time. Recovery was easy as well. The only discomfort I experienced was a bit of dryness and scratchiness. I can honestly say that my eyes felt less irritated during that first week after LASIK surgery than they usually did when I was wearing contacts!
My Vision Now
Simply put, I have never seen better. It is easier for me to see at distances as well as work up close. My vision is excellent both in daylight and at night. I remember the first time I rode my bike after LASIK surgery – everything was so clear that it stunned me. I guess it was a kind of sensory overload that I soon adjusted to. Everything seems more vivid and detailed to me now.
As well as having miraculously improved vision, I have a new-found sense of ease and freedom not being reliant on contact lenses. About four months after my surgery, I went to Hawaii with my family. Snorkeling and swimming were a whole new experience without the worry of my mask filling and losing a lens. Life wherever I go -especially when traveling – is much simpler without the hassle of bringing and using lenses, lens cleaning and wetting solutions, and a spare pair of glasses.
LASIK surgery has been one of the best investments I have ever made in myself. If I have any regret, it’s that l waited so long to do it.
