Cataract Surgery

Cataract Surgery is Nothing to Fear

Early-stage cataracts do not need surgery, as there are several solutions that can be prescribed to provide you with adequate sight.  But eventually, cataracts will progress to the point you will need surgery.  Cataracts are not a growth on the natural lens, but rather a clouding of the lens.  As such, the only permanent correction for cataracts is to have the cloudy lens removed.

Modern cataract surgery has become one of the safest and most beneficial operations performed today.  Typically, it is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia.  In the hands of a capable surgeon, the process takes 15 minutes or less to complete. Vision improvement can be seen immediately after surgery, and many patients are seeing better than they have in years as soon as the day after treatment.  At one-day post-operative visits, we often hear patients remark on the brightness and clarity of their visiono, and express amazement at how poorly they were seeing without even realizing it.
