Doctor Wallace says:
Debra is a great example that sometimes less treatment is better than more. She was mildly nearsighted, with slight astigmatism, but was able to read comfortably without glasses or contacts. We did not want to make her distance vision perfect in both eyes if that meant reducing her comfort at near, or making her dependent upon reading glasses. She told us that sometimes she just wore a contact lens in the left eye (her dominant eye) and that this was a comfortable compromise allowing the left eye to see far away and the right eye to see for reading.
With this information, counseling her was easy. I advised that we treat only the left eye, which (a) cut her cost in half, and (b) preserved the reading vision she already enjoys in the right eye. She agreed, and we treated the left eye in February of ’05.
Seeing her now, with that big smile on her face, we know that she’s happy with her results.
