I wanted to let you know that, even though I only had the LASIK surgery done a week and a half ago, the clarity of my vision is already better than when I was wearing my contacts.
I LOVE MY NEW EYES!
I had been wearing contacts for the past 17 years because I hated wearing glasses. My vision was really poor, making my glasses very thick and heavy. Plus I have always been very active and felt limited by wearing glasses. This feeling came back in a BIG way the week before the surgery. I rarely ever wore my glasses so my prescription was about 5 years old. Having to wear my glasses again, and having them very under-powered, made me realize how bad my eyesight had become, and how helpless I was without them.
I began imagining how my world would be affected if my glasses or contacts were ever destroyed or lost. I literally would be non-functional, and that really scared me.
The day of the surgery Ruth asked me if I was a little nervous about the procedure. Honestly, I was more afraid to stay the way I was than of the procedure. Both you and Ruth were terrific about making sure I knew what was going to be happening, and that I was comfortable with it. That too made the procedure very smooth and less threatening.
I was amazed at how quick and painless the procedure was and at how immediate the results were. As soon as I sat me up after surgery, I could see the numbers on the clock across the room. It was a little hazy, but nonetheless, CLEAR. I really couldn’t see the clock when I went into the room. I was already thinking this was the best money I had ever spent if for no other reason than it was because I no longer had that helpless feeling that comes from being so dependent upon glasses and contacts.
The following Sunday I was invited to go to a Laker game. The seats were 3 rows from the top, but that didn’t bother me a bit. I was amazed at how well I could see the players on the floor, I could see the shot clock, I even saw Jack Nicholson in his courtside seat without using binoculars. I was amazed and very, very excited. I missed a lot of the game because I was so busy looking all around the arena at how far away I could see without contacts. I know that a lot of pretty women go to the Laker games, and for the first time I COULD SEE THEM without needing binoculars.
The other thing that I have noticed in the past week and a half is that my eyes are no longer bloodshot. My eyes always felt and looked tired after wearing my contacts all day. My eyes are very comfortable and the whites of my eyes are actually white now.
I wish I hadn’t waited so long to have this procedure done. I think a big part of that is because of you, Ruth and Norma talking with me throughout this decision. I have talked with 2 other eye doctors over the past 4 years about having this done. After talking with you and Ruth, I felt that I was in the hands of very knowledgeable and experienced people. The continued support from the decision making, to the procedure itself, and through the follow-up visits have been very re-assuring and are very much appreciated. I have never felt like “just another eye patient”. I feel like all of you are as concerned about my happiness with my “new” eyes as I am. Thank you again for my PERFECT VISION.
