Doctor Wallace says:
Matt is currently an undergraduate at UCLA who aspires to military service. He and I discussed the fact that LASIK is acceptable to certain branches of the US Armed Forces (notably the Army), but a strict interpretation of current policy by other branches (the Navy) might disqualify him from active duty. While these policies are under review and will likely change in the near future, the safest choice was for us to offer PRK to Matt.
He had PRK in January ’03, and has recovered excellent vision. His great vision will now not in any way limit his choices or options.
This is a demanding time for all personnel who serve in the U.S. military. While our role in influencing Matt’s options and career choices is rather small, we take this very seriously and treat each situation with the utmost respect.
